WoW Item Upgrades
The most commonly used term for item upgrades is "upping"--are items and enchantments that can be put on armor and weapons and increase their power. These upgrade items increase the gauge of an item by a specified number of points. The cost of these upgrades increases depending on their rarity.
A perfectly made version of this armor is highly prized in the melee PvP community due to its ability to limit weapon damage.
Type-restricted upgrades
The process of upgrading is an essential part of the crafting process. Upgrades can improve an item's stats or increase its strength or give it an additional benefit. They can also alter the appearance of an item. Certain upgrades are universal, while others have specific rules for weapons and armor. Using the wrong type of upgrade can destroy a excellent weapon, and could even cause it to become ineffective.
As a general rule it is possible to upgrade an item of equipment up to the level of its top-level counterpart. This means that you can upgrade the helms, body armors and gloves and shields to the level of their highest-level counterparts. Weapons however can be upgraded to the level of a sword. However, this doesn't increase the damage output of the weapon and could decrease its value in trade.
To upgrade an item you need to spend flightstones and crests. The amount of both depends on the level of the item as well as the slot. For instance upgrading a sword will cost more flightstones than upgrading a cloak or bracers. You can also avail discounts on the amount of flightstones and crests required to upgrade an item.
The diamond-shaped indicator on an item gets filled when it is upgraded. Each step increases Tier level by one-third. Tier 3 is the highest level. It may take different upgrades to get to this level, depending on the item. It is crucial to remember that any procedure that may mount a disk should not be running when upgrading. Enchantment allows you to transform white or Common items to rare or blue items. Eleanor's Enchantment Shop in the Capital District is where you can do it. Jewels

Like other upgrade components, jewels can be inserted into an item using an appropriate socket to boost the item's. For example, a Garnet Pebble (gemstone) and an Adorned Garnet Jewel (jewel) both provide a bonus to strength, but the Garnet Pebble will only increase regular hits while the Garnet Jewel also boosts the player's strength. Jewels can be found in all weapon, armor and accessory slots. They can also be used with some exotic trinkets, or lesser rarity trinkets that need slots.
As with other DM mechanics, gems help to ensure that items feel special to their owners. With a range of different upgrade options gems let players alter their equipment to find the combination that best suits their needs. They can also upgrade their existing equipment with new jewels if the initial set of a certain type is no longer optimal.
Requirements
Item Upgrades in WoW allow players to upgrade the item levels of equipment set pieces, weapons and trinkets over their current level of items from specific Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor sources. These upgrades improve the stats of the base item, and some have special effects (such as Dolphin's Grace, which gives players dolphin-like grace when they swim). These upgrades can be obtained by upgrading the item or by salvaging it. Different items will drop various upgrade components.

If the player decides to upgrade their item the item will be taken to the NPC who upgraded the item who will explain how to upgrade the item. The player then has to provide the proper currency for that upgrade, and may be required to provide additional items should they require it. These requirements are determined by the item's level. Weapons have more strict requirements in comparison to armor.
In addition to the required upgrade components, many upgrade recipes have an acceptable materials list. This list outlines what other upgrade components are available on the item, and includes a flag that indicates whether the item has a guaranteed boost or additional effect. This is important to know because the value of an upgraded item could vary significantly depending on the extras it comes with, with properly rolled gear being worth a lot more than the non-upgraded versions.
For the types of upgrades that require crests or valorstones, they will be displayed in a separate list beneath the main list. The number of crests and valorstones needed depends on the item's level. Upgrades to weapons require the most Valorstones.
